Roger Watts Advocacy Debates
The annual Roger Watts Advocacy Debates is a joint initiative of UBC Okanagan’s Unit 8 and a community committee of professionals who knew and worked with Roger Watts, to cultivate a campus-wide culture among UBC Okanagan students for the debate of public issues. The debates are organized by the students and faculty of Philosophy, Political Science, and Economics, but students of all faculties and disciplines are welcome to participate. Every year the debate competition leads to final public debate at the Mary Irwin Theatre in downtown Kelowna, at which cash prizes are awarded to the winners and runners-up.
A series of debates held weekly between January and April will lead this year to Run-Off debate to be held Friday, March 11, 2016 in the UBC Okanagan Theatre (ADM 026) from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. The final two teams of the March 11 event will then compete on the evening of March 22 at the Mary Irwin Theatre for prize of Roger Watts Debating Champions.
